Alfie Brown took a top 5 finish in the IAME International Finals, the World Championship event for the IAME X30 Classes...

Unseasonal weather blighted the penultimate rounds of the 2017 Challenge at Oulton Park on Saturday, with rain and chilly temperatures putting a dampener on the Mini Festival event at the historic Cheshire Circuit.

Alfie Brown hit the ground running with a strong 3rd fastest time in Qualifying in the Mini Miglia Class - giving himself his best qualifying of the season so far in the wet conditions that soaked the circuit.

Race one saw Alfie make a good start and move himself up to 2nd on the opening lap - sticking in the wheel tracks of race leader Kane Astin.

The safety car was deployed after an incident involving Endaf Owens whilst the tyrewall was repaired.

When the green lights flicked on again,Alfie made his move to take the lead - initially he was unsuccessful, dropping down to 3rd position, before quickly reclaiming 2nd an then the lead of the race with a bold overtaking manoeuvre around the outside of leader Kane Astin with just two laps to go.

The race was finished early due to time restrictions and the ever worsening track conditions. On the lap 9, the chequered flag fell -  it was teenage novice Alfie Brown who showed a-mature-head-on-young-shoulders to take a brilliant debut win, holding off series leader Rupert Deeth by 1.159s at the flag in a time-shortened race.

The second race of the weekend, Alfie started from 2nd on the grid after he set the second fastest lap in the first race of the weekend.

Alfie moved into the lead at the end of lap two, holding a slender advantage over the chasing pack. The top three battled within 0.5s over the coming laps - with the positions alternating lap after lap in an enthralling battle. However on lap 13, Alfie began to drop pace and later was forced into retire from 3rd position with four laps from the end.

Despite the second race retirement, it was a brilliant weekend for Alfie as he took his first ever car racing victory - as well as being in contention for victory in race two as well.

The next race takes places at Rockingham on 30 September - 1 October for the final round of the 2017 Season.

Alfie Brown took a top 5 finish in the IAME International Finals, the World Championship event for the IAME X30 Classes...

The Circuit Alain Prost in the famous region of Le Mans, France hosted the IAME International Final for Junior X30. As the winning of the X30 UK Tour, Alfie was invited to race in the World Championship event for the Junior X30 Class.

Qualifying was split into multiple groups due to the sheer number of entries. (100+) Alfie claimed 18th position overall in qualifying, only 0.3s off the pace set in the faster later qualifying group.

A victory in his opening heat, followed by a 5th, 4th, 6th and a 3rd position across his five qualifying heats saw Alfie line up 10th overall in the Intermediate classification before the Pre-Final.

Starting from the outside in the Pre-Final saw Alfie get shuffled down the order and out of position.

Undeterred, Alfie managed to recover ground and move through the pack, finishing the race in 12th pace, which is where he would start the Grand Final.

A bold start by Alfie saw him immediately seek to gain ground, taking 9th place by the 5th lap. The British Champion continued his relentless pursuit, taking a futher three places by lap nine to reach 6th position.
For the rest of the race, Alfie would be embroiled in a fight for the final step on the podium as positions ebbed and flowed between himself and 3 other rivals.

At the end of the 18 lap final, Alfie crossed the line in 5th position, gaining seven places in total in the final.

Perhaps not the end result that was desired to go alongside his O Plate and X30 UK Tour Championships from 2015, however a strong performance nevertheless.

Alfie will next be heading to the Little Green Man award ceremony, where he will be officially crowned the 2015 Junior X30 Championship for the X30 UK Tour.

Next season's plans will be released in due course, with the likely scenario being a step up to seniors for Alfie, as he bids to take a third title in the LGM X30 Series.

Alfie Brown took his 4th victory of the LGM X30 UK Tour at PF International to seal back to back titles in the Junior X30 Class...

As usual, PF International hosted the last meeting in this Series. Ross Woodford surprised the regular front runners in Juniors by emerging on top of the timed qualifying sheets.

Alfie could only qualify down in 12th position overall in a difficult session, meaning he would start his heats from 8th.

Heat one saw Alfie knocked back to 30th place in the combative opening lap. A battenburg would then neutralise the race after a first corner accident. As the racing resumed, Alfie managed to claw back some ground, overtaking 14 rivals to finish in 16th.

The second heat was much smoother for Alfie, a good start meant he was able to make up ground early on. A race long duel with teammate Callum Bradshaw meant the two were split by just 0.24s at the flag, as Alfie came home in 2nd position.

It was Saul Robinson who claimed pole position for the “A” Final with Bradshaw alongside him. After the problems in the opening heat, Alfie would start from 10th on the grid for the final.

Robinson led from the lights only to be replaced by Harvey soon afterwards.

Bradshaw took his turn at the front before Robinson regained 1st place.

From grid 10, Alie Brown suddenly sprang into contention and went in front as the race neared its conclusion, after a sequence of fast laps and steady progress through the pack. Robinson, though, hadn’t given up on this position and pulled a manoeuvre on Brown with just over a lap remaining.

Halfway round their final tour, Alfie Brown managed to get his wheels in front and held on to the finish. This was Alfie's 4th victory of the LGM X30 UK Tour campaign, meaning he was crowned back to back champion in the class!

Alongside this second title triumph, Alfie is invited to compete in the IAME International Final, held at Le Mans in France for the World Championship Event in the IAME X30 Class.

A luckless final race means Alfie's title hopes vanish, as he finish 5th overall in the CIK-FIA  Academy trophy...

The final round of the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy headed to Le Mans in France. Alfie Brown went into the final round 4th overall in the standings, with an outside shot of the title.

Qualifying saw Alfie set the 5th fastest time in his group, 0.183s off the fastest time. When the times from both qualifying sessions were combined, this left Alfie in 9th overall, and in Group C.

Heat one saw Alfie start from 5th on the grid. A great start vaulted him up to 3rd at the end of lap one. The forth lap saw Alfie take 2nd position with the leader clearly in his sights. However the pack behind bunched up and the resulting battle dropped Alfie to 6th at the flag. Post race penalties for rival drivers promoted him to 4th in the heat classification.

The second heat saw another good heat for the UK Academy driver. Alfie vaulted up to 4th at the start which he would battle for all race long with one of his rivals. Alfie got the better of the battle to finish 4th at the finish, right on the bumper of 3rd.

Alfie's strong heat results left him 3rd overall in classification, meaning he would start the Pre-Final from the inside of the second row.

Alfie immediately took 2nd position at the start of the Pre-Final and heading off into a battle with the leader. A train of 4 karts formed in the lead battle as many position changes began too take place. After dropping to 5th on lap 5, Alfie had fought back to 3rd the lap later. Shadowing the front two for the rest of the race, Alfie finished in 3rd position, just 0.5s off the win.

Starting from 3rd again for the Grand Final, Alfie held station on the opening lap, maintaining position until the 5th lap when disaster struck, Alfie was hit from behind and taken out of the race, resulting in a no score for him in the crucial final round of the championship. The rival guilty of contact was penalised after the race, but did little to benefit Alfie.

When the final points were tallied up, Alfie was classified 5th overall in his debut European Karting Competition, a strong showing but bitter-sweet end knowing what might have been.

Attention is now directed towards the LGM X30 UK Tour, as Alfie bids to make it back to back titles at PF International.

Alfie Brown was pipped at the post in the British Kart Grand Prix Final, taking 2nd overall after an intense battle at the end of the race...

The annual MSA British Kartmasters Grand Prix took place at PF International for the X30 Kartmasters Trophy. A bumper weekend featuring 5 days of racing in scorching temperatures for 50 drivers would be a challenge.

Alfie headed into the weekend confident of a result, after having a brilliant record recently around the Grantham Circuit.
This confidence was evident as he took the fastest time in his Qualifying group, giving him the 2nd fastest time overall.

Heat one saw Alfie start on the outside and lose a couple of places on the opening lap. By the next lap, he had vaulted back up to the front of the pack with some clinical overtaking manoeuvres. A full course yellow halted proceedings for two laps after a big accident in the pack. The restart saw Alfie make the perfect getaway to pull just enough of a gap to be unchallenged for the remainder of the heat, taking the win.

Heat two saw Alfie start from pole position. Clever defensive driving meant he maintained the position as another full course yellow was deployed after the opening lap. Alfie held the lead until the 5th lap, before the chasing pack made use of the slipstream to catch up to his bumper. Alfie was then pushed off the track, dropping all the way back to 25th position!
In the remaining 3 laps, Alfie was rampant and managed to salvage an 18th place finish.

Another combative third and forth heat saw Alfie knocked back half a dozen places on both occasions, despite leading for the majority of the races, holding out for 7th position and 5th position respectively in the two heats.

The setbacks in the heats meant Alfie started the Pre-Final from 8th position. In amongst the pack, Alfie was squeezed out in turn one, before he started to make serious headway, taking 2nd position with just two laps to go to give him a  strong shot at the win in the Grand Prix Final.

Starting from the outside of the front row, a messy start with all drivers going for it saw Alfie drop down to 5th position. Once the race settled down, Alfie settled into his rhythm and made progress through his rivals. Alfie took the lead on lap 12 after getting to the front of the pack, opening out a half a second lead over his nearest rival. Alfie  kept this advantage up until the final lap, with his closest rival closing him down, Alfie defending hard into the first and second hairpin, sadly to no avail, as the rival driver pulled off a switchback manoeuvre to take the lead, leaving Alfie a gutted 2nd after being so close to glory!

CIK-FIA Academy Trophy : Press Release- 29 April 2015

Alfie is SELECTED TO REPRESENT UK IN THE CIK-FIA ACADEMY

CIK-FIA Academy Trophy

Since its inception, the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy has encouraged the emergence of promising talent who are now able to progress in motorsport.

Since the launch of the Karting Academy Trophy in 2010, the CIK-FIA has prioritised accessibility on several levels.

The financial barrier does not exist in this competition, as the equipment is made available free of charge to drivers, both the Parolin chassis and the FIM engine.

Junior X30 racers Alfie Brown and Callum Bradshaw will represent Britain in this year’s annual CIK-FIA Academy Trophy...

The duo teamed up last season with the BKC Racing squad within club competition. They are both racing in the Junior X30 Tour this term, with Brown scoring victory at the series’ opening round last month.

Brown has significant karting experience and was supported by the Racing Steps Foundation in 2013. But Bradshaw, 14, has only completed two full seasons’ of racing. Bradshaw’s dad Peter owned a British Superbike outfit until 2010 when the family opted to focus on Bradshaw Jr’s karting career.

“I’m stunned that I’ve been chosen,” Bradshaw said, “seeing as though I’ve not been competing in karting for long or been around the paddock. The Academy Trophy will hopefully improve my ability as I’ll be racing against some top drivers and it will really help my racecraft. I’ve never been to the circuits on the calendar other than Le Mans which I managed to be very quick at.”

Bradshaw added that he will look to further learn from Brown: “I’ve gained so much from being Alfie’s team-mate last season and into this year. We work really well alongside each other, and I’m learning each weekend. I’m always looking for top spot, so I’ll be going out there to impress.”

Brown, who has former British karting champion Jake Dennis as a friend and mechanic added: “I’m over the moon to be selected, it’s a great opportunity to race abroad. I’m currently karting just for fun, but this could open up doors to other sponsors and more of a career in motorsport.

“I’ve known Jake Dennis since I was eight years old. I’ll use his experience of making the switch from club to international karting as I’m always learning from the steps that he’s taken. Hopefully he’ll be able to spanner me at some Academy Trophy weekends.”

The CIK-FIA Academy trophy kicks off at the Zuera Circuit in Spain on the 23-24 May 2015.
The three round championship runs alongside the CIK-FIA European Karting Championships, with the remaining rounds hosted at Genk in Belgium, and Le Mans in France.
